Related to another thread that is running here regarding Yamaha 21oo firewire problems, I'd like to pose the question if anyone knows whether TOAST 4.X supports firewire via a PCI card. According to Roxio, TOAST 4.1.X does support firewire, but it is not clear whether that means built-in FW only or also PCI (specifically I have a RATOC PCIFU1P USB/FW combo card) cards.
If Toast 4.1.X does not support PCI firewire, does Toast 5.X do so?
Thanks much!
Andrew

I've been using Toast 4.x with no probs on a beige G3/266 with a WD PCI Firewire card. I don't know if the card would cause any problems; it's more likely that Toast wouldn't recognise your specific burner mechanism.

Thanks, that pretty much nails it. Is there anyone on this board who runs a firewire Yamaha 2100 drive with TOAST 4.1.X?

To answer the titel question: it works fine!
Folks, Thanks for all your contributions! The mistery is solved: it is an extension conflict with TOAST.
These links

http://www.ezq.com/1-714-694-0031/de...amp;SubPage=01 )
list a pile of possible extension conflicts with TOAST (which are not listed for example by roxio/adaptec...). Turns out, I had many of those questionable extensions loaded. I turned them all off and sure enough, TOAST recognizes my drive and burns CDs beautifully!
Now, since I just turned all of the extensions off, I can't say yet which one(s) were specifically to blame (I'll go back and do a one-by-one at some point) - I also don't know whether I messed up anything else in the process but so far everything still seems to run (even my external firewire HD which I had thought needed the Radiologic extensions which I zapped...
Anyway,
Thanks again to everyone for your input !!!!
If anyone is interested, these are the extensions I turned off: FireWire Authoring Support, USB Authoring Support, Authoring Support, Disc burner, Radiologic (everything)

On my beige G3, running OS 9.2.x, I used a minimal set of extensions with Toast, since I found that I got more reliable performance (in addition to the known problems with DiscBurner and such). Now, I mainly use OS X and Toast 5--works great.
