Hi

Is there a way to use the new ADC apple monitors on older G4`s (PCI Graphics)?
If i`m not dead wrong there was some talk about this in SJ keynote when they where
announced the first time (summer 2000).

Thanks Tom

I read something recently about a converter that lets you plug an ADC monitor (NEW) into a DVI Mac (OLD). This Q&A predates this connector/box as seen in the following piece clipped from the Q&A:

Aha! You did pay enough attention.

Well, in actuality, my quest is now longer then 6 months, so my Cinema
Display's are the older DVI models. Yes, I have two such beauties, none
mine unfortunately.

My quest for answers on the ADC-DVI issue have yet to reply. DVI-to-ADC
is possible with a Belkin cable. Now, I have E-mail to them for the
potential of the opposite. I presume it would be some sort of a breakout
box that would have a power connector. Would assume something less than
100$ anyway.

Cheers,

Stephane

Thanks for the input/links, both of you.

Seems like it`s still a "grey" area. I would like to add an 17" in addition to my 21" and since i`m
very happy with my 21" studio display i would like to purchase apple hardware again.

Guess i need to investigate a bit further......

Thanks again :-)

There is an adapter. Its made by belkin. It goes from SVGA, the port on your PCI card, to a DVI connector. The link is:
http://catalog.belkin.com/keywordsearch.process?query=ADC&var=stemming&a mp;stemming=true&var=num_rows&num_rows=10& amp;var=query.message&error_query=Go+back+and+ enter+some+words+to+se arch+f or.&RowsPerPage=10&RestartFlow=t&prod_ attrib=5

Although that is just VGA to DVI not ADC. I am interested to know when a VGA to ADC dongle will come out because the ADC monitors require power from the video card. So till some external power supply solution comes along all you can do is use the previous generation monitor with DVI.

Ok, so I was wrong. The Belkin adapter goes from DVI to ADC. So if your mac had a DVI PCI card it should work with a new apple monitor. Although power is in question.
