Hello everyone,

I'm having problems with my Plexwriter CD-RW(24x10x40, USB, External). The system knows that the drive is there - but toast refuses to recognize it as a Recorder, and tells me "No CD-Recorder. Please check cables and power."

I'm not sure what i can do to get Toast to recognize the burner. I previously had a Yamaha 8424 External SCSI CD-RW, but sold that for this drive. I removed the extensions for the Yamaha drive also. Plextors site doesn't offer much support at all for Mac users - so i thought i'd check with you guys.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

- RJ

Have you disabled the Apple FireWire support extension and the Apple USB support extension?

Yeah, just go to your extension manager control panel and disable those two extensions. Restart. It will not effect your other applications. If you have any problems as a result of this modification, just go back in and enable the extensions.

The extensions you need to disable are "USB Authoring Support," "FireWire Authoring Support," and, for the heck of it, "DiscBurner Extension." Make sure the Toast versions of these are enabled. You might want to create a new extensions set with these disabled and toggle between the two (if you want to burn from within iTunes, for example).

Did I read you drive's specs correctly: 24x10x40 USB CD-RW? Is this USB 2.0?

Yep thats right, 24x10x40 USB 2.0. Since i won't be doing a tremendous amount of burning with this drive and since i don't have a USB 2.0 card for the Mac, it will be doing all of it's writing at 4x. The burner will be making its rounds at the job here - so i needed something that was going to be compatible with our other PC's. In the future when PC's start shipping with USB 2.0 compatibility - i'll be set write at 24x.
