Instead of just trashing the company, you might want to describe more precisely how and when the crashes occur, what system or software etc., so that we the readers can try to help make up for the crappy service at microtek. I have an X6 and have had no problem whatsoever with the scanner, so can't speak of support.

Never had real problems with a Scanmakex X6 USB,
the software is fine for basic needs and doesn't crash.
Maybe you got a lemon.

I would start by reinstalling he software from scratch.
Good luck.

I have a Microtek Scanmaker 3600 USB scanner plugged into my B&W G3/300 and it works just fine. No crashes or strangeness. I scan directly into Photoshop 5.5 using the twain driver. I have a Canon Canoscan 1220U also, you may want to try one of those if the Microtek isn't working out for you.

I've used a Microtek E6 scsi scanner for a few years without incident. The software is not the best, but I've never had crashes due to their software. You're correct their support is nonexistant

Your model is connects via USB, but for SCSI users be sure your SCSI bus is properly terminated (if you have a SCSI model scanner) which causes more troubles than anything else.

Other than the that, the scan quality is decent for the model I have, I've never complained. The single-pass scanning is superior to the 3-pass models I've seen. Perhaps the newer models of scanners across manufacturers are even better.

It seems like the scanners for $99 are better than the expensive models from last year. But there's not substitution for the high-end Linotype-Hell flatbed scanners or a drum scan for quality.
