What printer would be good for catalog/marketing dept to reproduce largeish (ie sometimes 10" x 13", or even larger for page spreads) full-color book jackets from Quark, PDF and Photoshop files?

We're on a tight mktg budget but would like something postcript compatible, and durable, with good output for not too high a price. We've tried to get by with little Epsons for show and tell (cos we really scrimp and save), but it's time for a somewhat more serious upgrade.

Thanks mucho

I have an HP 1220C/PS that I use mainly for photographic output. I love it, crisp black text, true properly saturated color and Postscript level 3 compatibility. It might be too slow for high volume use though, but the quality won't let you down. I hope this helps.

Check out the Epson 3000 printer. It is a $1000-$1300 postscript printer which can handle up to 16.5 inch by 23 inch paper.

The Xerox (Tektronix) Phaser 790 is Fantastic! Much faster than my Espon 3000 (which uses a software Postcript RIP)

One drawback to the Xerox... $$$

I just got an Epson 1200 for $279 from www.electrified.com. I'm using Distiller 3.01 as my "RIP" and printing from Acrobat Reader. The output is gorgeous, and about 20 times faster than Birmy's RIP. I can't believe I'm getting off so cheap...
