Is it just me, or is the new ASD 17" smaller than the old one?
It really looks it...
I saw one today...
I couldn't find spec sheets on the old one, so couldn't check...
Anyone know, or was it just a visual illusion? (ie. diff res's, different screen geometry)

I use an older one day-to-day and used one of the new ones only briefly. however, in using the new one, i don't feel like I really missed anything (screen size). In fact, I think it's bigger depthwise, but that just might be perception.

One improvement i will note in the new one is the banishment of the three feet that somewhat plague the first ASD 17".

while designed to slip an iMac keyboard underneath, they lose flexibility since any platform for the monitor has to be as wide/deep as the three feet. now, with the solid plastic base, you can get away with a smaller footprint.

For me, that's important since my heigh adjustable monitor platform isn't all that deep

I understand what you mean about the new 17" displays looking a bit smaller. I measured - they're the same. Strange.

I have to say that I really do like the new displays a lot better. ADC is nice, and so is the USB hub. The totally flat screen is also very nice. The screen is so sharp and clear, with nice fast refresh rates - it almost looks as good (in my opinion) as the LCD displays (then you look at the size of the enclosure compared to the 15" and sigh).

In my opinion, the older 17" displays were way too overpriced at $500. You only got a basic DimondTron VGA monitor. I think the new displays are only moderately overpriced - USB hub, ADC connector, totally flat screen and stunning industrial design.

Sorry, but $500 for a 17" monitor is a rip-of any way you look at it.

Three years ago, Apple charged $500 for its 17" CRT. Since then, prices for CRTs have dropped more than 50%, yet Apple still charges $500... hmm...
