This review posts on 3 sets of speakers:

The G4 internal speaker (quicksilver)
The Apple Pro Speakers (Pro port, 20watts)
Cambridge/Creative SB20 speakers (20watts)

We start with the creative speakers, volume maxed (on speakers), kept sys volume at 7 squares on volume scale (keyboard scale), with no itunes equilizer in use.

The result: Loud but empty sound.. you had medium and high that was it.... if you maxed everything but the distortion and the high pitched sounds left.

Quality for price: 8 of 10 ($29.. expensive when I bought them)
Quality for size: 5 of 10 (not horrible I admit)
Quality OF looks: 0 of 10 (They're ugly as hell)

Second, Apple Pro Speakers, smaller cones than the creatives, but much prettier, same watt rating.

The pro speakers have no direct volume control, so let's forget that, but after unplugging the creatives and switching to the pro speakers instantly, you can tell a big difference.

The pro speakers have MUCH better quality sound, obviously thanks to the digital interface. Though mids aren't thought as good on pro speakers as on most, I think not, due to the fact the pro speakers have MUCH BETTER sound imaging (You can hear the wide variety of instruments.)

The score is 10 of 10, for quality of this size speaker.
10 of 10 (no doubt) for this look of speaker
and 4 of 10 for the quality of that specific price range ($60 can get a set with sub!!!!!)

The G4 speaker comes free with the G4 (it sucks we get that piece of **** after paying all that money, and no doubt, it sounds like an alarm clock radio, a LIFELONG alarm clock radio

You can hardly hear the G4 speaker at the same volume, in fact it's better maxed out.

Quality for size: 10 of 10 -> Bass was great, treble was good. Better than headphones.
Quality for price 10 of 10 -> it was free anyway
Quality for look: 10 of 10 anyway.

You see where I'm going, obviously the G4 speaker is a puny little thing. The Creative speakers are cheap, and the pro speakers are a little overpriced, but still acceptable.

Get an isub with any of your choices, if in OS 10.1 it can even work by itself! (It makes speakers sound much better!)

Or some soundsticks. Those things are very much overpriced, but look awesome and sound great.

I don't mind paying alot for a good pair of Harmon Cardon speakers, these things are so clear, and produce the sounds so much like they were meant to be. And they are USB, so you get digital sound all the way up to the Woofer... so virtually no signal loss. And you can blast em as loud as you want an they don't distort. To bad they can't do the start chime though, that would be really cool...

so 10/10 for looks
10/10 for size
7/10 for price (I am more forgiving for the price cus Harmon is awesome, and these speakers are awesome)

Too bad my mother liked em so much... I have given them to her. And now I am shopping for a pair of 5.1 speakers and a sound card to get that 5.1 out of my G4.

Hmm.. I just send the sound out the audio-out port to a real stereo receiver/amp and connect that to some kick-ass Bose stereo speakers w/monster speaker wire. Sounds good

I'm sorry, but your wrong. decent headphones sound pretty good and when you get into the $100 range you got some nice cans. next time just remember all headphones are like the ones you got w/ your $30 cd player.

P.D.

P.S. Damn, i'm starting to sound like an audiophile, huh i guess its what happens when you actually hear good sounding music.

This sounded good until you mentioned Bose. "No highs, no lows, must be Bose"

All they need is a nice little 8 inch 100 watt subwoofer and those bose with blow your fricking head off. Bose is nice shite but to expensive for my blood I will stick with cambridge sound works. I have their model six book shelf speakers for my 5.1 set up, (as the front speakers) and they are superube all I need now is one of those 15 inch 150 watt bass cubes and then the house will come down!

The best Sub

I'd laugh if someone tried getting car audio parts and sticking them under their chair, etc.

When I need lots of noise, I leave the isub plugged in and grab my 300w kenwood stereo. You might not think it's good, but turn the volume up and think again.

G4ME, how are you getting 5.1 off your tower? What soundcard are you using?
