Ok, I'll bite...

Before Cipher shows up, I'll beat him to the punch. Buy the one with the Panasonic mechanism - it is a superior drive - I'm sure he'll have more facts on it if he shows up. I do know it has been around since the dawn of CD-R - when it was something more for music recording studios than computer users. I have heard various things about the Iomega drive - but, ever since the ZIP100 drives of yore that would go bad (click of death), I haven't trusted Iomega products. Totally personal opinion.

Screw the MusicMatch software - just a bad PC port. Toast does a fine job by itself burning CDs. And Soundjam or iTunes will do the ripping more in Mac "style".

Too bad you can only go USB - you may have problems burning above 2x with any drive. My Que! USB thankfully can burn most things at 4x. There are posts strewn around in regards to this.

Wow, I didn't even see this topic... haven't been in peripherals much.
Yeah, he means Yamaha
They were the first, and have the most experience. Well, them and Sony really. But Yamaha is far superior. Everything they do, they are the best at (any muso's in here, don't try to argue about Marshall vs. Yamaha...).
All the evidence of that needed is these very fora. Look for problems with Yamaha's that weren't caused by either user error (-187: user error, replace user), or software/hardware computer side.
Then look for probs with Que!'s, LaCies, iomega's... plenty of them.
Yamaha is, quite simply, the best.

Here here! Cipher 13 steered me to the Yamaha Firewire 8824 and I couldn't be happier. Not a single coaster, speedy, and a breeze to set up.
