Bluetooth is not supported by Apple, OS9 or OSX.

... which is good, because it isn't that great. It's slow and uses the same 2.4GHz frequency that WiFi/AirPort does. It also hops channels thousands of times a second without checking to see if the channel is in use first, while WiFi only hops twice a second and always checks.

I tested a bunch of BT peripherals for an article I wrote, and it's a lot of fluff at this point. The limited range is also a consideration- Why print wirelessly from 20 feet away when you can plug in the printer? Same thing with using a BT enabled cell phone to get on the internet with your computer, the phone is right next to the machine anyway, so the wireless doesn't make much sense. The added cost and low market penetration means that Apple will leave BT support out for quite some time.

I actually enjoy BT quite a bit. I love having my cell phone in my pocket (T68) and be able to connect to the internet via my Ipaq 3870. I can also sync with my desktop via bluetooth. While I think using bluetooth soley at home or the office...on the road it's great! I used to have to use the IR port on my cell phone, which was a pain because you have to align the ports. THen I went with a cable...too bulky and you have to carry one around. THen I bought a Sprint PCS Aircard PCcard but then I had to carry around a sleeve for my ipaq + additional charge to have the card activated. With BT, no alignment, no cables! Plus I can sync my contacts, phone pictures, etc between the two. I've finally come back to mac after a year hiatus so I'am really disappointed that OS9 or 0SX doesn't support it.

I'm also disappointed - Bluetooth has great potential and isn't that expensive - Where would the iMac be now if Apple had said "Oh no-one uses USB lets leave it out, there's noting wrong with ADB/serial..."

Bluetooth is going to be big It's as important to the digital hub as USB/FireWire- My current hopes are that either

A: apple wants to add bluetooth but is being secretive (as per. normal)
(not such a far-off idea as Motorola is part of the bluetooth SIG.)

B: Since Darwin is Open Source someone outside of Apple will write the appropriate stuff and we can then use 3rd party Cards/USB dongles etc.

Bluetooth does not interfere with Airport as much as people want you to believe - precisely *because* it hops frequency so much.

Range: You can be further away than 20 m if there is a device between you and the printer - Bluetooth sets up its own PicoNets and scatternets.

When will people in the states see the promise of this tech - or will it be like GSM - The rest of the world has one standard and the US has its own
You know it makes sense. ☼ ☼ ☼ Growl.

Could you tell me the following:

1. Which modem script is the right one to use in MacOSX for the Ericsson T68 phone?

2. Is there a way to sync contacts/calendar with the phone and Entourage?

3. Is there a way to put in a modem initialisation string in OSX?

Hi, To get contacts from Entourage to the phone:
I use a T39 and I have a Palm 505, which syncs with Entourage.
The Palm can beam to the Phone (enable IR on the phone) and vice versa.
I know that is crap, but at least it saves you re-typing the lot on the phone keypad…

There are some SIM utilities for the Mac you can use to edit the phonebook, but NOTHING that syncs, which stynks…
