I want to use an HP Officejet G85 on an airport network, is possible? I would need a print server right? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

We use the HP JetDirect print server for our network-attached HP printers. Works like a charm

Just to review, I can take my HP Officejet G85 all-in-one which is not a network printer on its own, add a JetDirect print server and connect it to my airport network, is that right? Thanks for the help, btw.

Just to give you another option... Hawking also makes several print servers which should do the job. They're not wireless print servers but that's not really needed (from what I understand from your message). They have a couple models that support Appletalk. I don't know for sure that they'd work with your printer, check out at http://www.hawking-tech.com for more info. Hawking makes high quality products that generally are available for significantly lower prices than HP's products (look at computers4sure.com or buy.com for good prices).

hi,
pls wait. proceed no further! investigate a litle bit more. there has been some fairly explicit statements made to yr question that the g85 has no problems in a mac network environment. wow! i cant believe someone would write this unless ofcourse it were true...i dont think the people who answered you READ yr post. you clearly said AIRPORT network...guys, if you are answering, pls answer his question...
first, g85 on a os x network is out of the question. not only does it not work on a network yet, it BARELY works as an all-in-one as a standalone under g85.
there are so many problems it is difficult to know when to begin. pls investigate more. start with apple's own os x printing forum. there are so many AIO threads started concerning the G85 and even HP's new AIO the PSC 950.
hp has not spent the requisite time to make a creditable driver for this AIO.period.
now, if you are content with OS 9, then the situation changes, and i would agree that MOST functions work on a mac network. however, not ALL HP print servers work with a mac environment. i think the HP 300 print server works - at least HP claims it works- I can not confirm this, as I gave up trying- and have switched the G85 to be my wife's printer of all printers (what a waste, to be only used as printer) on a windows network that I have a home) You should know that all network mac solutions are officially "unsupported", so if you have problems, HP flips the bird to you.
regarding the g85 on a mac airport network, the drivers for all HP print servers that *should* work are not written yet. HP does sell the WP100 and the Wp110, but these are USB interface, and USB printer sharing on OS x is not a possibility yet. even if you only want os 9 airport g85 printing (not scanning, etc), the current wireless Wp100/110 driver does not work for any HP AIO.
sorry.
but ive been there with the g85 and psc 950...
thnx
