Hi,
After installing Virtual PC my computer refused to shut down the next day. It would only restart. I didn't think Virtual PC caused it cuz it's only software, but I read somewhere that with my specific printer there can be problems, however, following the info for the fix didn't fix the problem.

If I unplug the USB cable from the printer, the computer shuts down fine. If I plug it back in, the computer will boot up.

I even did a whole software restore on the main drive and it still won't shutdown with that USB cable connected.

I also just had my whole logic board replaced too and it's still doing it.

This is just weird. Has anyone heard of this? Should I buy a USB hub?

Thanks,
Renee

Your problem may not be related to this, but I did notice a warning in VPC 3.0's ReadMe that "users of USB-based Epson printers should make sure that the "Epson USBPrintClass [123A]" files are not in their extensions folder or the printer will not appear in the Chooser after using VPC. This doesn't relate to a shut down error, but you might call Connectix tech support to report what you've found.

I have a blueberry iBook and VPC 3.0, with an Epson 740i and we've never had any trouble shutting down. Then again, we don't leave the iBook connected permanently to the iBook, either...let me experiment tonight and I'll see if I can replicate the problem.

Thanks y'all. I did read about the USBprinter class and had deleted 1-3 and the driver is in the chooser, but it's still not shutting down when the USB cable is connected.

I read on a different board that many of the new macs are having problems with self-powered USB peripherals. I don't have another self-powered (meaning it has its own power cord) USB device so I can't test the theory perfectly. Although, I have a two button mouse and Visor cradle that are not self powered and they are NOT creating a problem.

It just seems weird that it happened after installing Virtual PC 3. I don't see how software can screw up hardware like this.

I'll let y'all know if I figure it out.
Renee
