I purchased a Mac Pro which doesn't come with a camera, are there any favorite web cams for those of you that do not have one "built in", also does it have to be firewire or will a USB web cam work? Thanks for your help.

USB cams will work with 10.4.9. All I have to say is ITS ABOUT EFFING TIME APPLE!.
*ahem* sorry about that.
Most new webcams provide good results. I've been very happy with the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro that I bought at B#stBuy, but I think that's because I paid $40 for it on sale. I'm not sure if I would have bought it at full $100 retail.
I know it says for Notebooks, but I like it just for the fact that it's small and has a built-in spring clip. Works great on a stand on the desk, hanging off the top of my Dell display, or clipped to the lid of my PowerBook 17. Built-in microphone as well, which helps a LOT with the G5 since I don't have a seperate mic for the desktop.

No. ONLY USB Video Class (UVC) webcams will work with OS X. They ranger anywhere from $50 up.

I have a firewire iSight on my Mac Pro, and it works fine. I am running 10.4.9. I'm not sure if you are saying that only USB will work or if any USB webcam must be specifically of the type "UVC."
I have a 23" Apple Cinema screen, and I plug the iSight into the back of the monitor. I also plug my USB keybord into the back of the monitor, then I plug my mouse into the back of the keyboard (those are low-power plugs) so that I have full-power plug open on the monitor.
When shopping for a web cam, be sure to read the fine print to see if the reported frame rate works at the highest resolution. Some will advertise a high frame rate and good resolution, but you can't simultaneously use both high resolution and a good frame rate. If you are streaming, then you can live with low res and a low frame rate (12-15 FPS).

That's what I'm saying. Sorry for the confusion.
Firewire Webcams and DV cameras will also of course.
