on my Macally iSweetNet? It functions very sporadically. It is so inconsistent that I never use the wheel to scroll. Any suggestions?

I recently purchased an iSweetnet and was extremely disappointed with the software. The CD included with this mouse is old and caused CD's to be unreadable on my blue and white running Mac OS 9.0.4. So, I downloaded the new software and alas it worked and was programmable. I used their lame software for a day or so but soon noticed that it was quite sporadic. Even if a window is active, you have to click on the window to get it to scroll and sometimes it just plain wouldn’t work. I couldn't stand it anymore and so decided to download USB Overdrive by Alessandro Levi Montalcini (<http://www.usboverdrive.com> ). The software rocks! The scroll wheel always works; the amount of scrollable lines is adjustable by number of lines or by a special acceleration mode that is fantastic. It always scrolls correctly and in a multi-pane application like Outlook Express, it scrolls the pane that your mouse is over. So go get it and it will make your day...oh and pay the dang shareware fee it is worth it!

Good Luck

Actually, I have downloaded USB Overdrive, and although it helps some, the scroll wheel functionality is still frustrating. The only way to get the wheel to scroll is to press it down while rolling it. This isn't normal, is it?

It sounds like you have a defective scroll wheel.

I have a Logitech USB MouseMan with a scroll wheel of which I quickly became very fond. Once in a while it acted just as you describe, but I chalked it up to an exceedingly cheap no-name USB card. But I still liked the mouse so much that I bought one for my work PC. When I first tried it out at home I discovered that in fact there was nothing wrong with the Mac--it was the mouse!

I almost returned it to the Computer Geeks where I bought it but dealmac.com pointed out a few days ago that mobshop.com is selling them for as low as $16 with a $10 rebate, UPS shipping included. Net $6 for new wasn't worth the hassle of mailing the old one back. So I got a new one there and it's working fine.
