I recently bought an iomega scsi zip drive planning to use it with my wallstreet g3 series. The cables don't match. I have both an HDI-30 cable for peripherals and one to use the book as an external hard drive. Both cables end in a centronics 50 connector while the scsi cables that came with the zip drive are quite different. I live on a remote island off the coast of South America and it took me two months just to get the darn zip drive. Is there any cable adapter available? I can't see buying a card for scsi that I already have. Or am I just out of luck?

i used to have a powerbook and zip, so i know it's a bit of a hassle. anyway, what you want to do is to get a SCSI adaptor to convert the HDI 30-pin SCSI on the powerbook to the 25-pin SCSI cable that came with the zip drive. i think you can get either a cable to do this (one end is 30-pin, the other 25-pin) or a port which has switchable termination. i'd go with the port version so you can use the powerbook in SCSI disk mode.

I don't know of an adapter, but if you have another external SCSI device and a cable for it, you can connect the other device to the HDI cable, then connect it to the regular scsi cable. You should end up with a db25 to plug into your zip drive. It is kind of a messy setup, however.

I guess I never really realize how lucky I am to have a nice big box full of extra cables in just the other room!

Actually, the centronics 50 connector has, well, 50 pins and the zip scsi has 25. I don't have any other scsi devices except for an external HD that uses 50 pin scsi connectors so I guess I have to find a cable adapter. If anyone knows of such a thing or a place where I could order it.......

Thanks
