I have a canon FS2710 35mm/APS scsi film scanner that I have been unable to operate either on a USB converter (tried 2) or FireWire (tried the orangemicro). I was wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with getting this thing to work with a SCSI converter and if so, which brand.

This adapters seem to be in their infancy. I'm still waiting for the one announced by Microtech Internernational. And yet another, which adds a FireWire hub, has been announced at http://www.fastware.net.. Finally, where is Iomega's FireWire adapter?

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I have never heard of any scanner working on any converter. As a matter of fact I read an article (Macworld I think) that tested converters and none would work with scanners nor would they work with some other devices.

I had bought a scsi Olympus film scanner in hopes it would work with a generic USB driver for Adaptec's scsi to usb converter. No luck. As a matter of fact, Adaptec's wouldn't even work with my scsi Zip drive which was (if anything) supposed to work with it. They even have the Zip drive in the picture on the front cover.

My advice: stay away from converters unless the company has made its own drivers for their products.

Converters as far as I am concerned are the latest incarnation of snake oil. Talk about a scam.
iFinished therefore iBook!

I'm presently using Adaptecs USB to SCSI adapter on an IBM Aptiva Home PC to the Canon Film Scanner 2710

No problems whatsoever.....

Now, I'm having doubts about getting an iBook / iMac....

Will others please feedback on their experiences on the USB to SCSI connectors? I still have a fairly new Yamaha CDRW 8424 which is SCSI!!

thanks..

i'm using an orange firewire convertor with my cube which only allows one attached device at a time, with a zip, a jazz and a lacie cdr...
originally the convertor was terrible :lots of read/write errors, but orange support mailed me some beta drivers and the iomega items work flawlesly..the cdr works if i use the zip or jazz first..
it doesn't recognise my scanner, but that was due for an upgrade anyway..
i would guess all these devices are dependent on good driver software which will improve over time
(incidently i have a keyspan serial adaptor which runs everything i throw at it even the original version of power print running a laserjet 4l!!!)

I have an Orange Micro firewire to SCSI adapter that works great with my ORB SCSI drive. I can even boot off the ORB drive (connected to an iMac DV via the firewire adapter). MacOS X PB reconizes my ORB via the firewire and my Zip250 firewire. I've no trouble. Haven't tried a scanner though.
