I Have a Umax Astra 3450 scanner and I use it (or tired to) on my Ti Book under OSx or 9.2 with no luck. As everyone may be well aware, Umax has a terrible support site and if you call them and actuall get through, they tell you that they have no ETA on OS X drivers or a fix for 9.2 drivers. They say that allof their drivers are made in Taiwa. (Ge, don't they have the Internet there too )?

Anyway, I'd just like to get my scanner working either under 9.2 or perferably under OS X.1. VistaScan stunk under 9.1 and I am wondering if anyone has any kind of workaround or toher (possibly Unix based) scanning software that may work.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Please e-mail me.

thanks

Otherwise, if anyone is interested in buying this thing from me, please let me know. I only used it about 10-20 times under 9.1 before 9.2 came out and then of couse, I'm now addicted to OS X and don't want to switch back.

Vista scan 3.7.5 works okay for me in Classic, and 9.2.1. I had to install it a couple times, and seems like I had to manually drag the Twain file into the Twain folder in order for Photoshop to see Vista scan.

Look in (OS 9) system folder/preferences/Twain and see if there's a file there called Vistascan 3.7.5 Twain.

Works with both my Astra 4000U at home and a cheap Astra 2200 at work, booted into 9.2.1 and Classic with 10.1.

How are you connected to the Umax scanner (USB, SCSI, serial)?

If USB, you 'should' be able to use it in Classic.

I recently re-partitioned and re-installed my system. I have 9.2.1 on one partition, and OS X10.1.1 on another. After the re-installation I made sure the scanner worked on boot into 9.2.1. To my surprise and joy, it also worked from Classic!

I used the OS X finder to navigate to the UMAX VistaScan 3.5.4 DA, and launched it. It started up Classic, and I was able to scan!

Howiej, I too bought this thing. Which driver are you set up with? Mine came with vs 3.7.3, in which case you may find that dumping the vs control strip helps. You also have to turn virtual memory off, tho' this is daft long term. Don't let vs install imac update 1.0.
The umax support site is awful, yes (I can't remember who I bloody registered as or what f** password I used, & so it won't send me the new drivers -I'll have to harass the dealer) but try Adobe -it's ace!!!
