I was having a bit too much fun with the iPod and managed to mess up some of its required files.

I realize the updater was pulled, but from what I understand, the restore function has worked well for most people who have tried it. A broken updater is certainly better than no updater in my situation, at least it is something for me to try.

If any of you have a copy you could throw on your idisk, or mail me - neurack@yahoo.com I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I downloaded the updater from the "dreddnone" link posted here. Unfortunately, it doesn't want to work for me. I'm hoping that Timmer's web site will stay up long enough for me to grab his copy. The updater that I got from "dreddnone" acts a little weird. It launches and then appears to immediately quit. I've tried running it a variety of ways: with the iPod disconnected, connected; with iTunes running and not running. Nothing seems to work. Do you think this has anything to do with my OS 9.1? The Readme file says 9.2 is required, but I'm running iTunes 2 and the iPod with no problems thus far. Why would the updater put up a fight? I don't get it.

Oh! I am SO good! The iPod Updater launched and ran with no problem under OS X and 9.2.1...each of which were running off of my iPod and a CD respectively. So I got to thinking about what it could be about my main OS (9.1) that would cause a problem. On a hunch, I updated my CarbonLib extension from 1.1.1 to 1.4. Apple's web site said CarbonLib 1.4 was good from OS 8.6 on up. So I installed 1.4 and...voila!...The iPod Updater worked like a charm! There's the answer!
