I deleted the songs off of my iPod through iTune2. There still says ther is 778mb on it and 3.8 gigs available. How do I get the rest of it back? I tried the iPod Free Access program.

According to the FAQ, to reset your iPod, you will need to use the Update (which has currently been removed from their site) to reformat the hard drive and restore the software. I suggest searching around for the Updater or contacting Apple. Don't know why they took the Updater down.

I was on the Apple site (forums) and at least 8 people have posted the same situation. I'm guessing there might have been a problem with the updater.

I got the update last week and it will freeze the Mac and the iPod and generally just muck things up. So I am glad to see they pulled it. I assume they are coming out with a new version. But as far as regaining lost space, I am curious too. No way the OS on the iPod can take up more than a few MB. My iPod has a nice 500MB chunk of storage missing.

Well using Tinkertool to see what files are on the drive (hidden also) along with Get Info, The capacity for the iPod is 4.63GB in Mac OS Extended format. The HD also has copies of iTunes for 9.2 and OS X. And looking at the other folders the OS/Device controls don't take up much space at all. Most of the space is music and the 2 programs at 3.8MB a piece (iTunes programs). I suspect the lost space is part of the way manufacturers report space on their hard drives.

I've checked with Tinkertool as well. The hidden files come nowhere near close to the 400 missing megs. It's the formatting of the drive.
I don't like how Steve touts this thing holding 5 gigs of music with such emphasis. I know my G4 says 60 gigs but it's only 56 or so. But if they're gonna make the iPod and try to show off its 5 gig capacity so much, then make a drive who's capacity is 5.5 gigs. So once it's formatted properly, the end result is a 5 gig drive for us to use.
And about that hidden music Library. Anyone figure out why it creates all of these F01-xx folder, each containing about 30 mp3 files? What if I put them all in one folder? And they're not arranged in any type of order, wonder why?

Thanks. I was able to download and use the Updater with out any problem. Got my 4.6 back. I'm sure there must be a firmware fix coming so you can just delete songs from itunes completly.
