Walter Rho notes continuing problems with HP's Mac support:

"It was with a certain amount of publicity that HP returned to the Macintosh market with their 5300C scanner line. Having had good experience with their printers in the past I purchased a 5300Cse and a 970Cse printer. Their web site had upgrades to the scanner and printer software, which I duly installed. Alas the scanner upgrade made my G4 crash horribly, and the new printer software no longer allows the user to set defaults. Notwithstanding the above, the purpose of this note is to alert you and other Mac users that HP has pulled ALL Macintosh driver material off of their web site."

"We posted a reader's message yesterday whose wording about HP's Mac support proved confusing. To clarify and summarize, HP has not provided ScanJet 5300C software, although it specifically touted Mac support in its press release for the product. Software for other HP devices is available, via the HP Mac-connect page
