I have enjoyed carrying around my new iPod in my pocket listening to my music collection on the go... however today I accidentally put a big scratch in the middle of the plastic cover to my LCD screen.

Can someone reccomend a product to remove the scratch... I have Scratch B Gone which works wonders on scratches on my glasses but I thought I would post here 1st before using it.

Thanks.

not as bad as a $25,000 scratch though...

I don't think it should be a problem using that scratch remover that you were planning on using (although I tend to be brave with that kind of stuff). If it's safe to use on your glasses, I don't think it would be that harmful to your iPod.. One suggestion is try using it on a "not-so-obvious" scratch that you may have elsewhere on your iPod to "test" it out...

Let us know how it works.. I have a feeling that everyone will need to know sooner or later...

How about that Brillianize stuff someone on here was talking about the other day. It's not for removing, but it is for preventing scratches and fingerprint smudges. I think it's brillianize.com Has anyone tried it yet on their iPod.

Better question:

Does anyone know where to get those clear plastic screen protector things? I figure those would work better...

Does anyone have any homemade remedies? There has to be something good for getting rid of that awful scratch right across the front of my 'pod.

I feel for you. I have a small scratch on mine (on the LCD area), which is really annoying. it would be nice to get rid of it, so i might bite with some of those treatments.

Have you tried it yet? I am giving it a go with Brasso (brass polish). I think it is working. Think.

Anyway. I'll tell all when finished

Toothpaste. Yes really.

Toothpaste is slightly abrasive and you can "buff" a scratch out pretty easily. I use this for cds all the time. You have to work pretty hard to get deep scratches out so you can start with car rubbing compound or if you are extremely desperate you can try super super fine steel wool then smooth it with toothpaste. Obviously use your best judgement and practice on your milli vanilli cd first. (ooooh sh*t! you turned it in for the refund?)

As for a plastic cover things you can cut one of those PDA screen protectors to size (any store with PDA accesories has them), or better yet, find a clear section of a window static sticker and cut it to size.

Watch out martha stewart.

I think I'm going to try that car scratch remover for the back. I forget the name but they have commercials for it.

I got the Brillianize stuff. Nice. It's really smooth and shiny now. Almost slippery, but prefect, no fingerprints stay and it's looked perfectly clean now since the weekend and I'm handling it a lot. Before, just picking it up once after cleaning left finger smudges. Now to just get those front plastic scratches out.

Well, the brasso seemed to work. I'll will try with the toothpaste idea too. I remembered the Brasso trick from my Swatch Watch days: they used to scratch really badly, and this always worked.

Be careful: Get a really clean duster or cloth, without *any* grit in at all, otherwise you might end up more tiny little scratches in it. But you all knew that already

For the front, try something made for plastic like for polycarb glasses or motorcycle fairings.
For the back, I made it a non-issue on my iPod; haven't wiped the back down in over a week now 'cause it doesn't show scratches or fingerprints anymore. http://homepage.mac.com/zac4mac/PhotoAlbum3.html
