I have a iMac SE and a JVC camcorder (GR-DVF11) with Fireware. iMovie will not support the JVC camcorder. How can I make it work? Is their another program that will able me to hook up my JVC camcorder to my iMac?

You don't need new software you need new hardware. The sony DVMC-DA1 will allow you to digitize with your JVC. The only problem is that the DVMC-DA1 was replaced by the DA2. The DA2 WILL NOT accept exports from iMovie. I found out the hard way. So try to get your hands on a DA1. I found one on eBay.
Also, you won't be able to control the camcorder from iMovie but at least you'll be able to get video in and out of iMovie.

The problem is that JVC screwed up their implementation of Firewire. You *have* a digital camcorder *but* it does not follow the Firewire I/O specs.

Remember, saying "my camcorder has a Firewire port" is like saying "my VTR has an RS-422 port". Firewire merely specifies the interface specs. It's up to the manufacturer -- whether hardware or software -- to implement them.

Sell your JVC. Find a camcorder like the Panasonic PV-DV900 (discontinued, but about $750 on closeout at Sears) or if you're into Canon, one of their mini-DV cameras mentioned as being compatible with iMovie.

All the DVMC-DA1 does is change analog video into Firewire DV I/O that iMovie can recognize.
