Last week I found a great deal on MacDeals for a Sharp Viewcam SD20U. I have since been completely unable to connect this camera to my blue G3 minitower. I have
read a couple of other posts where people have mentioned the this camera does not work with a Mac. I am really bummed out by this, cause I have already shot a
bunch of great video and really like the camera, but I can't get the video off of the camera. Any other experiences with this camera, as well as suggestions for
what I should do, would be mucho appreciated.
Thanks-

Well... you could sell off the camera and buy a Sony Digital 8 one.

That would at least allow you to keep any 8mm tapes you've shot.

The only other alternative is to find a DVMC-DA1 to translate the analog video into a DV stream that iMovie will recognize.

My brother and I each have the same Sharp viewcam and it works fine via Firewire with our B&Ws. I use it with a Lombard and a firewire PC Card, as well. I use it with iMovie and Strata video shop. Make sure you have the latest Firewire drivers (2.3.3). I have had no problems, althouh I got the same deal as you. Used it for my wedding and transfered only about 30 seconds of footage.

Mneal--
I have the latest firewire software from apple, and I have tries Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and Premiere 5 to get the video off of the camera with no luck. Perhaps you could tell me what settings you used in iMovie to get this to work. I am really feeling bummed about this purchase, but your experience is encouraging. Thanks for any additional advice you can provide.
