I've been having problems with two epson printers I manage. Two different computers, two different epson ink jets, but roughtly the same problem.

The pronters concerend are the 440 and the 740.

When trying to print one day, the user noticed banding in the print, and cleaned it like he was supposed to do on the inside lid of the machine. After that, it would not priont in black again. I know the ink cartage was new, but I replaced it with another. The color seems to work fine, and the printer reports no errors when trying to print. It even moves the head around like it is printing, leading me to belive that I just have very, very clogged jets.
Needless to say that I have cleaned the printer heads several times to no avail, and the nearest support center wants at least $90 to fix the problem. Any help on how to get at the jets, how to clean them (probably from the paper side) or anything else (short of dating advice) would be appreiated. Thanks plenty!

Oh, and sorry for the spelling errors!

I have had this happen after a nasty paper jam, it started streaking and then quit printing, eventually in all four colors. It started with black, then cyan, then magenta, and finally yellow. I emailed Epson support, they said to try a new cartridge. That didn't work either. I took the printer apart, and physically cleaned the jets with rubbing alchohol to no avail. I soaked the heads in water overnight to no avail. I forced water through them, to no avail. I would say that your printers are done for, you can get a new 740 for the $90 your support center wants to charge you

well, that was what I was wondering, and I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for you, and I really appreate you saving me the time. What I did was buy an HP with the money to replace one of the printers. HP ink cartages have the ink jets as part of the cartage. It may not give me the resolution that the Epson promised, but what differance does it make how high the resolution is if the printer is dead in the closet.

As crappy as this whole thing has been, I would still reccomend the Epson Personal Laser. So far my experiance has been that you don't need to deal epson's miserable support. And I'm only now retiring my HP deskwriter C, a real workhorse for me for many years.
