I recently bought a G4 and 17" apple studio display from apple. Recently it has started to slightly flicker and make a strange quiet metalic hissing noise (very hard to describe.) When i put my ear to the vent it almost sounds like somthing is sizzling. Evertime the screen gets distorted it makes the sound and i see lines across the scree (looks like there is MAJOR interferance type thing)

It just started doing this..im wondering if my monitor is going bad.

Its doingi t right now. it makes me scared. I better go before it goes bad totally. PLEASE HELP!!!

I just turned the monitor off for a few minutes and the problems seemed to get better. Perhaps it was overheating? The vents seemd very hot, hotter than the vents on the new DVSE that I had before.

I dont smell anything burning, but the sizling sound and the heat worry me. I usually dont leave the monitor on, if im dowloading somthing overnight ill turn the monitor off. If im not around ill put the computer to sleep...

So i dont know whats going on.

I have the same setup, a G4 with 17" Studio, and I don't hear anything like sizzling, and the monitor never seems to get hot at all, even when its on all day. Go and see an Apple Authorised technician before it gets worse (I don't mean to scare you by that).

Hi, Iīv got a different problem with my 17" Studio Display:

When I change resolutions it seams that the screen canīt remember the position of the screen. This makes it impossible to make any changes to the screen settings (screen size and position) as it will mess up the other settings when I switch back. Is there any way to prevent this or is my screen faulty and should be replaced?

It didnīt help but thanks for the tip. Itīs the hardware settings that are haywire, not the software settings.

Itīs when I adjust the hardware (the "on the screen" buttons) the thing go crazy and alters the the settings for ALL resolutions, not just the one wich Iīm using for the moment.

I canīt use different settings when I play a game in 800x600 because if I do that I have to readjust the screen afterwards. :-(

ya know, in many cases those hardware settings result in a very 'software' preference setting
