I have a question about being able to read CD's you make on any of the many CDRW's there are out there, on other peoples systems. I am an artist and I would like to burn images of my work onto CD's and send them to collectors and gallery's etc. I am wondering if all CD Rom's will be able to read what I have recoreded. I have seen posts of compatability problems. Also I have seen posts about not being to play music recorded on CDRW's on audio CD players.

Thanks,
nycitysteven

You'll probably want to use CD-R discs in your recorder to create handout discs. CD-R discs are compatible with most CD players. The CD-RW discs are not as reflective, and many older CD and CD-ROM players can't read them.

Besides, CD-R blanks are *A LOT* cheaper than CD-RW blanks.

Of course, feel free to send me CD-RW's anytime

One word of caution, as the previous reply stated, CD-R's are compatible with MOST CD players, but defintely not all. My older Mac (actually a Power Computing machine) will not read silver disks with cyan dye, but me new G4 and a newer Power Computing machine at work will read it just fine. My car audio player won't read a disk I burn at 8x, but it will read it just fine if burnt at 4x. My home CD/DVD player seems to read any audio CD, regardless of what medium I use, or what speed I record it at.

I seem to have better luck with gold disks. The old Mac and car stereo seem to read them better.

Unfortunately, you'll have to play around until you find the right disks for you and the people you hand them out to.

i've tried cd-rws on an assortment of macs, and they only seem to work on iMacs, and G3/G4s. i dont know if thats all, but ive tried them on LC 580s, 5xxx, and 6xxx machines, and they all dont run. and, of course, they work in cd-rw drives. as for the cd-rs not working in some players, i never ran into that. the only problem ive ever had with cd-rs is with an older car cd-player. but it never played cd-rs, regardless of dye color.

well, thats all i have to say for now,

CD-RWs can only be read by multi-read cd drives, which are in the biege g3 and up. If you are distributing cds, I would distribute them in the ISO format and the Mac volume format (in toast, you can do this), so pc/mac troubles wont be bothered, by making this hybrid cd. Or you can simply make an ISO cd, because macs can read pc cds anyway

Nadir-- You simply MUST look at the MCE Xcarat expansion bay CD-RW units at their web site: [url]www.powerbok1.com[url]
I have one in my WallStreet PowerBook and it is THE BOMB !! I'm using Toast 4.0 (plus the updater for OS 9) and OS 9.0.4. Zero problems, nada, zip, zilch. The unit for the Bronze Powerbook is the same price, $449.00 It is a bit steep, but the convenience is just too sweet to igore. I've burned about a dozen CD's for myself and friends, both music and data files. JoeCartoon is now a big hit with my sister in South Africa (i'm in New Jersey). I downloaded the flash cartoons in PC format, put em' on the disk and mailed it. Now the requests are flooding in. Cross-platform, whatever. Easy as falling off a log, and for a rookie like me to say that, you KNOW it's a snap.
Best,
Bob

Personally I think the best way to distribute would be to have a Hybrid Mac/ISO disc, as that may impress those that use them, and is very practical. Maybe even have it as an autorun.
As for the CD's, I have never had any problems with CD-R's, and every computer I have used them on, from LC 575's to Pentium 2's and G4's has been able to read them. They are the blue discs, specifically Verbatims.
