I've been having problems printing with my imac and the epson 740. When I go to print the program scrolls through like normal and it will start to print, but about an inch in to the printing process the printer just stops. No messege is given and the ink cartridges are full. I've run multiple test prints and they all came out fine. The printer is selected in the chooser, what can I do?

It sounds like a memory allocation problem. Go to the Extensions folder in the System Folder and highlight the Epson Monitor 3 file. Press command-I to get the Information window, then in the pop up menu at the top of the window select Memory. Increased the Preferred size by a factor of two. HTH

I have two iMacs, both of which are connected to Epson 740's. One of them works flawlessly but the other stops after scrolling through a short while like yours. The Epson Monitor application is still open for printing in the application switcher menu however. If you select this program my setup prints the rest of the document. Hm......strange because both iMacs are identical, as with both the printers and printer drivers.

Anyway the point is that it might be something to do with the Epson Monitor application which opens during printing. Check this is working if you havent already!

You might also want to check out how your Epson is connected to the computer. Sometimes that same symptom is exhibited when the printer loses contact with the computer. You didn't mention a hub of any kind, but I had the same problem with a hub. If you do have it connected through a hub, try directly connecting and seeing if it will print.

The epson printer is plugged directly into the imac and I'm not using a HUB. OS 8.1 on the original Imac. Still will not print. I recently did a clean install and turned non- essential extensions off. I've tried eveything that every one has suggested on this site (also see "More Problems" in the I- mac section of this site) as well as some other advise. Is there any way to wipe or purge the hard drive and start over fresh or is a clean install the only option I have other than taking it back to the store? Please help, I'm desperate. thank you.

ok have you tried Adam Silver's suggestion that has been posted a few places here in the forums?
Trash all Epson Print Class files, and see these if you have not already: http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Forum1/HTML/000540.html
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/Forum4/HTML/000814.html

there are a few others... sorry if this info is all old news

Also, I think Epson recommends that you run at least OS 8.6. There were great strides made in USB from 8.1 to 8.6. My rev B iMac ran great with the 740 before the printer broke. The software played pretty well together after throwing those class files away.

Try turning off Epson Monitor and just use the printer normally (not background printing and queueing etc., you know what I mean).
I recommend running at least OS 8.6 also.

Hmm, I have OS 8.5.1 and my 740 has no problems!? Anyway if it is still under warranty, Epson is very good about replacing defective printers with a new one within 48 hours!
