Has anyone tried a SCSI to USB connection for older SCSI devices? I have an external 2 GB drive that I would like to resurrect, and though it's not crucial to the operation of my iMac, I would like to be able to back up to it. I mean, since I have it and all. Just thought I'd get some user reaction first. I have seen SCSI to Firewire connections, but as I said, I don't really want to use it as a dedicated drive. Thanks in advance.

Michael

We've used the Belkin USB-SCSI adapter in the past. It has an active terminator (needed I think for any system running OS 8.x and beyond) with its own power supply you plug into the wall.

Although Belkin doesn't recommend this, we were able to get an Agfa StudioStar scanner run with an iMac under OS 9.

As a rule, the USB-SCSI adapter manufacturers tell you their adapters won't work with scanners -- only with older external hard drives. The Agfa scanners seem to have drivers which follow the SCSI standards rather closely, which is why we tried it in the first place. Just don't expect the USB-SCSI adapters to work with every scanner -- just with older HDs.
