So I've been researching RAID enclusures and I've pretty much decided on the Wiebetech RT8-0-SATA. It's got the least of many evils, including:
Internal Power Supply
FW800
SATA-300
Fans
Hardware RAID 1
I still have a couple unanswered questions about it. Maybe someone here has some insight:
1) Does the unit to online rebuilds or only offline rebuilds?
2) If one drive dies or is pulled while the system is functioning, does the unit still operate normally
3) How loud is this thing?
Lastly, if anyone has some suggestions about other enclosures that I'm missing, I'd welcome some links. The other one I've looked at is the CalDigit FirewireVR, but the only thing stopping me from getting that is the external power brick, otherwise I would have picked it up in a heardbeat. It's dead sexy!
My criteria is:
- Dual bay
- Hot Swappable Bays
- Hardware RAID 1
- SATA-300
- 750GB Drive Support
- Internal power supply
- Fans
- QUIET!
- FW input (Firewire 800 at least, if not Firewire 400 as well)
- Online rebuilds
- Operation in failed state (drive yanked while online or failed drive)
