Am I just imaging things, but when I have my ipod in shuffle mode. It seems like it "randomly" plays the same songs in the same order each time i turn it on? - Also for the record, its the best purchase I've made all year. Store my journal and all my songs, bought a cassette adapter for the car and it sounds great. No more need for a CD player in the car. loveing the ipod..

Actually yeah, unfortunately it seems to work the same as iTunes and that when you shuffle the playlist it does it once and then play it the same way each time.
I wish they would fix this in iTunes and the iPod.

If you turn the iPod off (hold the play button down for a few seconds) and turn it back one (press any button), it should be re-shuffled.

Great my wife is going to try this at work next week, and I will let you know if it works for her!
Thank you.

I've heard in computer science class that it's difficult to create a "true" random number generator....code typically creates a random sequence, but that random sequence is the same each time!
I've noticed that the shuffle on the iPod doesn't seem to be very good...it'll keep hitting the same song even in a 300 song list, within the hour. Anybody else notice this?
I have to keep fast-forwarding, which drains the battery heavily, and why I want to invest in a car ipod charger unit soon.

Now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

Maybe my 2G works different, but my iPod generates a random play list and it has to play though that entire list before it cycles.

hmmm.... Mine is a 2G 10GB iPod as well, and it does not work like that.
I will still post about turning it off like SupahCoolX suggested.

Start the iPod playing on a differnt song at the beginning. If I start on the same some each time the order (While I selected shuffle) will always be the same. But if I just start on a different song the order is different. Oddly, my iPod randomly seems to play music that I have recently imported earlier in shuffle mode. I don't really mind since that is the music I have usually been recently listening too though.

most people don't actually want a truly random playlist - you don't normally want to hear songs from the same artist or album close togther - I find the best way to get a 'random' playlist is to listen to my songs in alphabetical order by song title and only ever pause the iPod, even while I charge it...

It's easy. You saw the Star Trek movie (#4?) where they return to present-day earth, right?
Just do like Scotty with that old Mac: Pick up the mouse, and tell it "Computer, give me a random number please."
Problem solved.
Oh, and ask it for transparent aluminum, too. Those Powerbooks aren't cool enough.
