Folks.

a major part of my thinking about whether to get an AppleTV is my uncertainty about whether it's possible to stream music from the AppleTV to AirTunes (Airport Express).

Any ideas? Searching the forum and some other sources didn't really provide an answer.

Thanks
Torsten

The Apple TV does not allow you to stream music to it from iTunes using AirTunes like the Airport Express does.

You can't control the output on the Apple TV from iTunes.

You must use the Apple TV remote and have the TV set on to select music, etc.

I too wish you could use the Apple TV like an Airport Express OR use the Apple TV via the TV interface, but it is not possible. I have therefore kept my Airport Express as well as using my Apple TV.

Hey Ian.

thanks for the reply.
However, I'm not sure whether you understood a 100% what I'm trying to do.

I have speakers connected to my Airport Express. (Dining Room). Currently I have a Mac Mini in the living room, using it pretty exclusively for iTunes related stuff. (I bought tons of iTunes stuff over time) With the Mini I can choose where to listen to the music. Either in the living room (Toslink connection to Amp) or in the Dining Room (AirTunes connected speakers) - or both, actually.

If I was to replace the Mini with an AppleTV, could I do the same? Specifically listen to my music in the dining room, using the speakers connected to the Airport Express)

Thanks again.
T.

No the Apple TV does not allow you to stream music to an Airport Express, all the Apple TV can do is output sound and vision itself.
