Sorry to burst your bubble, but everyone I've talked to or read says that the Que CD burners are no good - bad Mac drivers and software. Check for a driver update, that's the first step towards fixing silly problems like this.

I have a Que USB drive and it works great. I have never had any problems with it. I am using OS 9.0.4 with Toast 4.1 OEM. The only thing I can think of is maybe it is the media. I always use Memorex CDR and CDR-W and have never had a bad burn.

Hey, back up! My QUE FIre CDRW is awesome. I don't know who you spoke to, but you didn't get the whole picture.
bobo, have you updated Toast to 4.1? Or 4.02? I had problems with the latest version of Toast, so I downgraded until I got satisfactory performance (4.02). There are some good posts here (search this forum for QUE), and also at MacInTouch regarding troubleshooting the QUE! drives.
One more question, Does the burned CD mount in the QUE Drive?

the problem i have is the cd i burned in que drive won't be able to recognized by my imac.
i didn't have this problem before, but i had this problem a couple of days ago, when i got a copy of dp4. my drive can read the cd with no problem, but when i insert the cd in the cd tray of my imac, there is no movement at all, i mean, the cd doesn't even spin. i use sony's cd-rw cds as the media. don't know if that is the problem. i am using toast delux 4.1. i don't know if regualar toast software will be able to burn disk images.
one final note, i used to have similar problems, but the difference is my computer would say the cd format was not recognizable, then i eject and insert, after couples of tries it would read with no problem. the thing is, the cd doesn't even spin now. geez!
i wonder if a clean reinstall would help. but i really don't want to do that. i just have too much stuff on my hd.

I'd have to agree with MacOS761 - just about all posts in this forum in relation to probs with burners, are with Que drives - to anyone else reading this, get a Yamaha - they're the best available.
Thats my 2c.

i am actually writting this in dp4. the problem i found out is not with the drive itself(maybe a little bit), but with the media i was using. i bought a Memorex cd-r disk this morning and burned it. my mac read the disk with no problem at all. i remembered when i got my burner, it had two disks come with it, one is cd-rw and the other is a cd-r, the cd-r one can be read by my mac with no problem. don't know if this is the problem with que drives. anyhow, thanks for your posts
regards.
btw
dp4 is great, can't wait to get the beta version

What everyone seems to be ignoring from the opening post is that the CDs he burned USED to work, but now do not. The same thing is happening to my roommate's iMac 333: some CD-Rs that used to work all of a sudden decided they'd rather spin around and make funny noises in the drive. They all work fine in my (iMac DV) DVD-ROM drive. For now, it seems that burning the CD-Rs at a lower speed (e.g. 4x instead of 8x) solves the problem -- but we're still unsure about why they worked at first and only now don't work.

CD-R media has a limited shelf life. And it's often much shorter than manufacturers quoted figures, especially once it's burned. You get what you pay for though.. Use quality CD-R media and you will have little or no problems. Laser units in CD drives also do not last forever, And when they wear.. The problem will be noticed first with CD-R discs as they are always harder for a drive to read as the discs do not reflect back the laser light as well as regular pressed discs do.
Also, could easily be both problems, IE worn drive and low quality CD-R's.
By the way.. I use a Que FireWire drive. Works great! No problems here.

Like every other computer problem, you need to focus on what has changed between the THEN and NOW computer setups/configurations. Some comments:
1. "no reaction at all" just doesn't make sense. The drive needs to spin to determine whether there even is a problem. The drive cannot tell if a disc is bad without spinning the disc and first trying to read from the disc.
2. CD-R Media is VERY different amongst manufacturers. Some drives have better success with different media (this is a direct function of the laser used and it's associated wavelength). When compared to a manufactured audio CD, the quality of burned CD-Rs is VERY poor. Check with the manufacturer of your drive to determine whether the media you use is recommended. Don't buy cheap media. Rather, recommended media should drive your purchase.
3. The fact that the discs "used to be able to run" (I'm assuming you really mean "able to be read") really implies either different media used or an upgrade of software which has somehow disabled reading of the CD-Rs, most likely the media is at fault.
4. An unrelated comment, I tired of these 'Cute Puppy Dog' statements; "Que burners are no good", "Yamaha drive are no good," etc. These statements are meaningless. When the software/hardware works people will say the drive is great, otherwise they say the drive "is no good." The software/hardware conflicts will be solved, eventually. OK, they should have been solved sooner. What you need to look at is features: Burn-Proof™ Technology and similar technologies, speed of the drive (my QPS drive extracts audio at over 2.5 Mbits/sec), portability, data conduit (USB on the Mac is only for LOW SPEED devices according to APPLE itself. Their drivers don't take advantage of the full bandwidth available through USB. GET A FIREWIRE BASED DEVICE IF YOU HAVE A MAC.). Enough already, I'll step down off the soap box.

OK, one last comment. Elite Member MacOS761 states that "Que CD burners are no good - bad Mac drivers and software."
Guess what, Que doesn't write Mac drivers and software. They use OEM drivers/software. Que simply repackages drive mechanisms with interface boards (which I'm sure they get from another provider) and bundles the whole thing with OEM versions of Mac software.
I wish QUE did write software. Then maybe they could write a firmware updater to update my Plextor drive mechanism (Plextor only provides IBM based or IDE based updates).

What does it matter? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
Que!'s generally don't. Yamaha's always do, as an opposing example.
