Hi

I have a Maxtor 40GB external FireWire HD. What I would like is for it to spin down when I put the computer to sleep. There is a program that comes with the drive (MaxTools) which lets me spin down the drive manually. Is there a way to have the drive spin down with the rest of the computer?

Thanks

I have the Maxtor 80 GB model and would like it to do the same thing! I'm running a G4 Cube and OS X 10.1. The Energy system preference controls this external harddrive properly, as it will spin down after the designated amount of inactivity. However, when I put the computer to sleep ... it simply will not spin down! Actually, to be more accurate .... it does spin down, but once the computer has completely gone to sleep it spins back up! Unfortunately, this thing doesn't come with an on/off switch, so I have to unplug it to keep it from constantly spinning. Personally, I don't want to have to climb under my desk and unplug this thing just to get it to go to sleep with the rest of my system, so I'm hoping someone out there has a suggestion or two?

If it's only switching off: Have a longer power cord with a switch on your desk (you can make it your own in 10 min).
But sending it to bed by the sleep command; I'm interested, too!
