Anyone know where to get a firewire keyboard, or if they even exist?
Thanks

I doubt that one would be made, chiefly because USB is more than fast enough for that kind of input. Unless you type at about 1.5 megs worth of plain text per second I doubt you would need that (and if you know how big a 1 meg text file is, you'll know why firewire keyboards wouldn't be feasible).

True, firewire is overkill, but I believe his intent is to find a text input device for the iPod. A firewire keyboard would be perfect, and the OS iPods run supports quite a few text, calendar and other applications.

I sell Macs and I've never heard of a FW keyboard. I am curious as to why you would want one.

A firewire keyboard would truly be overkill...something like having a SCSI keyboard or something...
But looking at some posts by << timmerk >> it looks like he wants to attach this to his iPod? I don't know why you would ever want to do that though. Also, the iPod's OS probably does not support input devices anyway.

you may be able to get a firewire adapter which would let you connect a serial or usb keyboard. I don't know but its a more likely option I should think.

I want one so I can connect it to my ipod and try different key combos until I get to the secret menu. Then I would be able to control lot more stuff on it, possibly load apps onto it.

The secret menu? What secret menu?

There's no proof a firewire keyboard would allow you access to a "secret menu", although, arguably, it's probably most obvious that such a way of doing it is through custom software which Apple Computer likely has possession of in order to do software development for the iPod.
Since it's already hooked into the system via FireWire, that's the way
it's likely accessed.

while you're at it, maybe you can find the secret key combo to shrink that freakin' sig. jeez, man.

i'd agree that as far as iPod "secret hacks" go, the files stored on the hard drive are your best bet.

That is the FIRST THING I thought of when I saw that game of "Breakout". This thing, the iPod, is capable of so much more than playing mp3s. Why 32 megs of ram? Skip protection? Does anyone really need 20 minutes of skip protection? Why the funky headphone jack? What else will this baby do? The firewire keyboard would allow it to become a mini-computer, for God's sake. I can't wait to see!

i am rofling here. that is one big honkin' sig.
anyway, do you maybe have a little too much time on your hands? i'm getting this "i got my ipod and i dont want to accept the fact that i paid $400 for a mp3 player so i want to convince myself that it does lots of other things" vibe from you.

karl, you're gonna find a secret menu with a firewire keyboard that doesn't exist and squeeze a 10gb hd that won't fit into the ipod? and yet you manage to put your earbuds through the wash?? sounds like a recipe for disaster. and i agree, shrink that sig.

Hah! Dude, that was the best $400 I ever spent! If you had read a forum I posted long time ago, you would see that when I was looking in it's fimeware, I saw all these menus and such. Ill post them later again for all to see.

Nope, nothing good on the hd that you can access (even when makign everything visable). Best bet is firmware - I already looked inside and found seom secret menus - now just to access them....
