This is driving me crazy. I've got an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card in a PCI slot in my dual 533 G4. Running 9.2.1. I have an Epson Expression 636 plugged in to the card -- nothing else (no chain).

When I boot the G4, it hangs at the "loading extensions" window forever. Totally freezes. When I unplug the SCSI cable from the scanner, it boots normally.

I reset the PRAM, trashed my 2906 extension (reinstalled the latest one), and even moved the 2906 to a different PCI slot. Still no go. The "READY" light on the scanner never illuminates (it's supposed to when you boot the machine and it recognizes it).

Any ideas on what's going on here?

Is termination set to “On”?
Does your card need a ROM update?
Try changing the SCSI id.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Yes, I changed the termination of the card to "Enabled" instead of "Auto". The drivers for the 2906 are up to date. When nothing is plugged in to the card, everything is normal.

But when I reboot with the scanner plugged in, it hangs. I've tried all the SCSI IDs (dial on the back of scanner), rebooted each time, and nothing.

Funny thing is, I can unplug the scanner when the startup hangs, and the G4 continues booting!! Plug it in, and the whole thing freezes.

I'm going nuts...
