I use my G4 as a desktop all the time, so i was wondering what type of device i can use to turn on my powerbook so i don't have to open the case.

I found this... http://www.griffintechnology.com/audio/pwrmate.html
Any others?

generally, altho you may be able to turn it off, a Powerbook'll wake up when you plug any USB device into it...so plug in yer monitor, Ethernet, whatever, then mouse.keyboard last and it should wake from sleep. I'm wondering tho...why leave it closed rather than using the LCD display AND your external monitor?

Well, for OS 9, start it up with the lid closed, the just put it to sleep, close it, and wake it up with your external keyboard. For OSX, which manages not to support dual monitors, you have to start the Book with the power on button then close the cover quickly. It'll only work after a power cycle; putting the Book to sleep and closing the cover won't activate the external monitor. Hopefully Apple is working on this. I can tell you that the crescent key on a sun USB keyboard won't turn the Powerbook on! Oh well, guess it's kludgy workarounds till Apple fixes t...

Here is the situation
I'm going to College this year, and I am going to use my Ti as my desktop most of the time (i'll unplug it for laptop use when i need to)

What i want to do is add an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and store the unit UNDER the desk on one of the side holder things (now i know ventilation is an issue that is why I rigged together a little fan that goes under my Ti when it's on the CoolPad)

If I store it under the deskt, it would be a pain in the arse, to go under there constantly and open the lid just a little so i could turn it on.
Now i know i could leave it on all the time (hell thats what i used to do with my PeeCee) but again the heat issue worries me.

thats is why the little PowerMate device caught my eye...it did exactly what i wanted it to do, turn on my mac via USB
