Is anyone successfully using one of the HP 2100 series printers directly connected to a Mac through the ethernet port in OsX 10.1? Obviously, to work it must be either a 2100tn (or a 2100 or 2100m with a JetDirect card). There are some issues that I can't seem to resolve.

1) Do you need a crossover RJ45 or a straight cable. The OsX 10.1 material claims that it doesn't need crossover cables because it is "smart" enough to configure according to setup.

2) Has anyone tried LPR instead of Appletalk? Supposedly you just enter the IP number and it connects but, again, I can't seem to make contact.

In my case I have a 2100m with a Jetdirect card and I can poll the card and change its settings using a PC so the card itself is mechanically fine. Any experiences you've had with this setup would be greatly appreciated, even if you are going through a router although I'd first like to connect directly before trying a router.
