I'm wondering if I'm not cynical enough, having bought the MacNN Special Formac CD-RW this week.
They advertise Toast; they ship an OEM product called Toast Lite that is not supported by either Roxio nor by Formac (each company refers requests for either support or upgrade path to the other!).
Is this to be expected? I really do not know if this is normal practice in advertising these days, nor whether MacNN's Specials are reviewed.
Oh, and Roxio's Toast doesn't support Formac's CD-RW hardware either, according to the Roxio web page. I'm puzzled why even the Lite OEM software was bundled. It boots and immediately displays a screen saying it will not do most of the file formats advertised and to contact Roxio for an upgrade. And Roxio doesn't have one, nor does Formac.
Oh, it's also described as "hermetically sealed" and very quiet in the MacNN Special text. It's neither sealed (at all, let alone hermetically) nor quiet. It's in a thin plastic shell with vent holes, and noisy.
