has anyone had their ipod skip? while sitting completely still once in a while mine will skip at a point in a some songs. but its not a shock problem which causes it to skip. it seems to be actually caching the song with a skip in it in memory. if i go forward 5 tracks, then go back, it wont skip. but if i simply rewind to the error point it will skip again. anyone else see this phenomenon?

Are you listening to tracks that are connected, like those in Beatles' Abbey Road? I've experience a slightly pause during the connected tracks. I wish ipod has the cross-fading ability like itunes 2 does.

Let me guess, on Abbey Road the pause is between "Polythene Pam" and "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window?" So far that is the only slight glitch I've had on my entire music library. Love this iPod!!

if you listen to all those "back to mine" series too! but hey this is a revision 1 ipod, someday we'll have cross-fading.

I had the same problem. In the begining of a particular song, I noticed that it skipped. I restarted the song several times and, same thing, it skipped. I then went to a different playlist and let it play for a couple of minutes. When I then checked the song that skipped, it was fine. I haven't noticed it again so I didn't think much of it. If it happens more often tho...

I have experienced this skipping problem a few times also. If you listen close to your hard drive (or notice the extended pause), note that it accesses the hard drive after playing about 3-4 songs. I suspect that it loads that amount of data into ram.

If you back up and repeat the skipping song while it's still in ram, the skip will continue to exist. If you "force" a ram re-load by skipping forward 3-4 songs, then reselecting the skipping song, frequently the skip is gone.

It appears that a reading error can occur (by bumping perhaps), and that error will be heard as long as the song is in ram. I have not determined how much of a shock will cause these read errors.

A small price to pay for such an otherwise wonderful product

There is a skip, or paerhaps pause, at the begining of one track that I assumed was in the orginial file (bad encoding). I don't know that I have ever listened to the track on my mac, but I'm going to check it out tonight.
