Can anybody recommend a scanner and/or an all-in-one that...

1) can be used without installing a ton of manufacturer's mediocre software
2) has Universal drivers
3) is directly compatible with Image Capture -- that is, it shows up as a device under Image Capture
4) supports TWAIN

Basically I want a scanner I can access directly from Image Capture, Yep, and similar applications. Any suggestions?

My wife's mom has an HP Officejet 6310 which she uses for scanning pictures to mess with them in photoshop and then print them on her Canon photo printer. She says it does a pretty good job for it being an all in one. Now mind you she is a digital photo nut and her photo printer is actually an 8ink Canon Pixma Pro9000 printer so I am pretty sure she knows what shes talking about. But then again she is about to get some crazy professional Epson scanner for her photos but I am guessing the Officejet can do what you want it to do. You might want to check out the Canon Pixma MP810 if you dont need a fax as it can provide better quality photo printing than the HP. Plus for the most part Canon printers tend to offer some of the best compatibility with Macs.
