Howdy gang.

When I visited Logitech during E3, I notified them about how people were
enjoying their mice, but ditching their drivers for USB Overdrive, or even
Kensington's drivers. They responded with surprising concern, and asked me
to compile a list of complaints and suggestions.

[Just post your notes here; we'll forward them to MGL who will then forward them Logitech]

Hopefully, we can get some decent drivers out of Logitech in the end.

My only complaint with the Logitech Drivers is the inablility to remap the right mouse button on a per-application basis, given that different developers use different key-click combos to simulate right mouse clicks on the mac.

(For example, sometimes the "right click" is control-click, others it's command-click or option-click.)

This feature is actually needed pretty badly, but otherwise I'm happy with the product.

Why doesn't Logitech just license USB OverDrive? It's a great product, and is already widely used. They should license it and re-focus their efforts on their hardware.

i am using the logitech Wingman three button usb mouse on my b/w g3. os9.04

after installing the drivers for the logitech, i noticed that after opening any microsoft internet app (explorer & outlook) that after about 5 minutes the computer would become achingly slow. symptoms similar to when the mac is looking for a DHCP number. you are scrolling along on a web page and all of a sudden it will not scroll , none of the menu bars work, only mouse movement. after about 30 seconds the computer catches up and all the menus and scrolling happens.

i disabled the logitech mouse stuff in the extensions manager and am now using usb overdrive.

that is my problem with logitechs mouse drivers. their attitude towards cameras is another whole issue.

I use a logitech mouseman mouse and it works fine except for the fact that it tends to disappear, until i unplug and replug it in

I don't want Logitech to rely on USB Overdrive: they're doing a damn fine job already, and I hope they know that. I hope they know how much the Mac world appreciates their dedication to our market.

I don't have many complaints. I would just like to pass on that OS X developers would really like their right mouse button, and were wondering when Logitech is going to release a driver.

Also.. Any chance that Logitech could add the dual-button feature that I saw on a Kensington? You hold the left and right mouse button, and an application menu pops up... Thought it was kinda cool.

I use a MouseMan Wheel. I love the mouse, and the drivers are okay except for one thing...in InputSprocket games, you can't configure the scroller (only the "middle" button) or the button on the side (the thumb button). With USB Overdrive, I can. So I use it instead.

I can never seem to get the scroll wheel to work in games like UT and Q3A. Can Logitech fix this?

I have to disable the mouseware alltogether whenever I want to play UT and Q3. Logitech wheel mouse (UB48). Mouse doesn't track at all when the mouseware drivers are installed with those games. Undo the drivers and I suppose input sprocket lets me use it just fine (minus the wheel function).

Vertical motion in InputSprocket games would be great...

USB Overdrive doesn't really work for me in Q3A or UT either...

Starting in 9.0.4, Apple changed some underlying USB plumbing so that USB mice can work in MacsBug (just as ADB mice do). However, since the Logitech mouse has a custom driver for the mousewheel, my Logitech mouse doesn't work in MacsBug. (My round Apple mouse does, so I keep it plugged in as well.)

(And no, USB Overdrive doesn't allow me to use the mouse in MacsBug either, so here's a chance to pull ahead.)

My request is to fix the driver so that it does the same magic that the default mouse driver does, and let me use my (otherwise wonderful) mouse with the scrolly wheel in MacsBug.

Thanks!

hi all let me start out gnawing at the bit... logitech can bite me. I have put in a questoin to them regardingtheir mousewhell and how it just plain donest wokr in appleworks 6 (not to mention a few other things) and all i get back is the canned response of "remove conflicting drivers". So if they are 'suprised' they are lying or incompetent. I havent yet been able to figue out how to get usb overdrive to do the mouse right... anyone wnat to empart to the list their settings?

I started a thread on macfixit regarding problems with the last release of the mouse drivers version 3.5 due to a problem I was having. Email to Logitech and calls were met with unfulfilled promises for replies or phone calls back. I found their tech support less than awful. In fact, i sent follow up email to them daily with no answers.

This is the second time in two years I have experienced this from them. Macfixit readers solved the prolem and I wanted to share the fix with Logitech, but, alas, I guess they don't care.

Bottom line:
Find alternative software and add it to the cost of their mouse products.

Shame on them

Yeah, my biggest single complaint now is that the latest drivers (3.5) are not compatible with any game that uses InputSprockets. You lose all vertical motion. It worked fine under 3.0.

I find WebWheel to be as useless on my Mac as I do on my PC. They should focus their efforts elsewhere. The ability to assign the right-mouse button to different keystroke/button combinations on a per-application basis would be great.

I have a MouseMan Wheel at work, but I replaced mine at home with an IntelliMouse Explorer which I find a lot nicer. Isn't the IntelliMouse driver based on USB OverDrive?

I like being able to have different settings in different applications & I find that IntelliMouse and USB OverDrive are both much smarter about figuring out which scrollbar to use when a window has several scrollbars. Also I find that Logitech's drivers tend to just die on me and suddenly stop recognizing the scroll wheel and right & side buttons.

I just got Logitech's new software with the WebWheel feature and found it so buggy it's unusable. The WebWheel function crashed on me many times, especially when trying to change the URL for a button (that function doesn't work at all in IE5 and is crash-prone in Comm 4.72).

I use a Mouseman Wheel at work on a Blue G3. No problems except the problem with no scrolling in Appleworks. I also use one at home on a Performa 6400 with a Belkin BusPort USB PCI card. The mouse doesn't work at all at startup. I have to unplug and plug it back in. It stops working periodically while the computer is running. Again, unplugging and plugging gets it to work right away. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the mouse or the Belkin USB card. I'd like to know if others have this problem with different USB setups.

I am using 3.5 Mouseware for my Mouseman Wheelmouse (4 button). It works fine when I use the logitech mouse. When I plug my regular mouse (apple) back in it still has that smartjump feature on there which is wierd. I would like to have different mouse control buttons on a per application basis. Oh and mouseware causes APPLESCRIPT EDITOR to freeze when you try scrolling on it with the mousewheel. I think that is a bug that should be fixed first.
BTW: I use a B&W G3 9.0.4 OS

I have noticed that often the scroll wheel (the main reason why I bought that one mouse) doesn't always work in Internet Explorer.

You are scrolling and then it stops.

I have noticed that it usually does work on the right side of the page, but not on the left one. Odd behavior. But sometimes it doesn't work anywhere.

For example, http://equip.zdnn.com I have huge problems getting the scroll wheel to work on that site.

I also like how it snaps to the default button, but I wish I could tell the software not to snap to the main button for certain windows. For example, when I'm unstuffing a file I just downloaded, it takes my pointer to the unstuff window and that's annoying because I have to go back to where I was.

Other than that, I love it.

Two problems:
Sometimes when scrolling with the scroll wheel in Microsoft Outlook (Outlook, not Outlook Express), the mouse will somehow activate a link embedded in the email, even if the cursor is nowhere near it. I think this or other weird scrolling behavior sometimes happens in other apps (such as Netscape, IE).

Moving the mouse does not wake up the monitor if Energy Saver has put it into power saving mode (moving the standard Apple puck mouse will wake up the monitor).

Re mapping the right key--I can do that on my ADB TrackMan Marble; haven't tried on my USB TrackMan Marble Wheel. I did have problems with the USB driver--programmed double-click didn't always work. But the new driver released a week ago solved that. I'm really pleased with their TrackMan Marble series--just sorry they abandoned the ADB version.

Three things reall bug me about the Logitech mouse:

1) lack of application specific settings. Come on folks, the original MouseMan software (1992!) had this, and you REMOVED it?

2) When using the scroll wheel and hitting the end of the document, continuing to move the wheel down causes the scroll bar to "jump" upwards. VERY annoying.

3) The scroll wheel will frequently cause Netscape to freak out by expanding and reducing the tool bars.

I use a MouseMan wheel, and have no problems with it, in games, or anything, except for the AppleWorks 6 problem where scrolling using the wheel is screwed up.

The wheel works very well in Unreal, Quake III, and UT. Bingo.

One more thing...

The real problem is with the HUBS and USB cards used. I use a Belkin and an XLR8 USB card, and an Iceview hub, and that’s why it works fine.

With a MarbleMan and USB 3.1 driver I have the following 2 complaints:
1. Windows for which the vertical scroll bar has been moved beyond the right hand margin of the screen cause the wheel not to scroll the screen until the window is moved such that vertical scroll is again visible. Curiously, the movement is buffered while the scroll is off-screen.

2. Serious problems with the version4 PDF plug in under Netscape Navigator 4.08. Scroll does not work and often causes application or system hangs.

Mark

I have a Logitech MouseMan Wheel and I love it. I was orignally using the Logitech drivers, but whenever I scrolled in any app it made my AOL Instant Messenger name go idle (very wierd). This was annoying because if I was on Instant Messenger and scolling in an app, if someone messaged me they would get my idle message. Switching to USB Overdrive solved this problem. So if Logitech is looking for things to fixed (I did in fact e-mail them about this) might as well add this one to the list!

The Logitech drivers for my USB First Wheel mouse were OK. However, similar to other post, Logitech was vague and unhelpful when asked for a response to a technical support issue. So I switched to USB Overdrive. I am very happy with USB OD. It works better and with much more flexibility than the Mouseworks drivers. It would be great to see Logitech get on the bandwagon and start supporting the products they sell!!! At this point my next mouse will be from another vendor!!!

The 3.5 driver does not have the ability to change the function of the individual buttons for each application. The old ADB driver did allow this. It also has a problem with some games (Starcarft) in that the vertical motion is absent. I tried to reinstall 3.1.1 and was unsuccessful as it gave me the message that the mouseware did not load. I have since installed USB Overdrive and love it. If I hadn't found it, I would have junked the Logitech mouse and bought another Kensington Mouseware as it works perfectly and allows the buttons to be programed for each application. It is a shame I have to pay for a shareware driver to make a mouse work. I have sent at least 6 e-mails to Logitech over the last 6 months asking when the ability to program the buttons for each application would be available and get the message that they will notify the people in charge of writing the drivers with my request. I don't think they will ever get to it. If and when I need another mouse, I will NOT even consider another Logitech. Kensington has won my business for as long as they don't mess up.

Hey Ryan. ;-)

Smoother scrolling that doesn't skip back and forth occasionally! I know it's probably not possible with the current method of hacking scroll support into the MacOS, but hey, I can dream right?

My main gripe is the scroll wheel. It works OK on some areas of a page, and doesn't work at all in others. It's really annoying. Also, my page up & page down buttons don't always work correctly with the scrolling wheel activated; also if the scroll slider in a Finder window is off the screen the wheel doesn't work. I use a PeeCee at work with a Logitech scrolling mouse, and it works fine (meaning, as expected). The Mac USB scrolling mouse & drivers do not... it's quite annoying.

I had never heard of USB Overdrive, but I'm sure going to locate a copy & try it!

TrackMan Marble Wheel is a great device. But the Logitech drivers? Forget about it. USB Overdrive is excellent. Using Overdrive, I have my device configured differently for StarCraft & Age of Empires. Global settings for general use. Been using Overdrive for a couple of weeks now & not a single problem has cropped up. The scroll wheel is working more reliably as well. In fact I don't recall the wheel ever failing to work since I installed Overdrive. The suggestion that Logitech just license USB Overdrive is a good idea. The link for this excellent shareware is: http://www.usboverdrive.com

I've found two problems, which Logitech acknowledged, but had no ETR on. The system being used is System 9.0.4 on a 400MHz iMac DV.

1) If you use the scroll-wheel in AppleWorks 6, the mouse buttons and scroll wheel suddenly become unresponsive until you click outside the AppleWorks window (to the Finder, for instance) and click back.

2) If you wake the computer from sleep with a mouse-click, the mouse is no longer visible to the system.

I did not find the tech support especially, helpful, but they did seem honest and willing to do what they could at the time. I also appreciate that they DID acknowledge the problem and DIDN'T try to artificially raise my hopes by promising a fix they couldn't deliver (how many times have we heard "real soon now"???).

I just ditched my Cordless MouseMan for Microsoft's IntelliMouse Explorer.

I would have liked to buy a cordless Logitech keyboard and mouse but, for whatever reason, thile Microsoft can make a USB mouse with a PS/2 adapter, Logitech can't do the same for their cordless stuff.

Better drivers? How about hardware parity, it's not rocket science anymore.

Take note of where your pointer is. If there are several scroll bars the one nearest to the pointer is will scroll, so just move the cursor closer.

I love the Trackman wheel. I had the old trackman and really liked the customization that was possible for different applications. Now I am stuck with default, seems like a major software downgrade to me.

The biggest issue for me is compatibility. I sure hope updates will allow me to use the scroll wheel in sherlock and appleworks as well as other currently incompatible apps (Napster often freezes if I even accidently bump the wheel.) The scrolling feature was one of my main reasons for buying the new trackman in the first place!
