I'm at a loss of what to do here...

I've got a great HP LaserJet 4MP (postscript) that comes with a serial and a parallel connection. I purchased the g4Port (a serial to localtalk adapter) and the thing doesn't work. I've been through their tech support, and they can't figure out what's wrong (it went dead after installing airport cards).

So now I'm left w/ the 4MP, and I can't print.

What are my options here? I know I can get an Asante local talk bridge thing for a bunch of cash, plus a router, blah blah blah, but I don't need all that.

What I'd like to do is hook it up through a USB port (or even Firewire). Or, can I get a serial PCI card?

If anyone has experience here I'd appreciate it. I don't want to ditch it, but I may have to and just get a crappy USB inkjet printer instead.

Oranjdisc,

Keyspan makes the a cable (USA-28 or 28X) that simulates a serial port through an USB port. I was told it works perfectly. The only problem is: $79 bucks retail (still cheaper that a new LaserJet though).

I have this very same printer at my folks' place (connected to a damn PC) and the printed paper sheets tend to curl pretty badly. Does this happen to your 4MP too?

I am far from an expert but we just got a HP2500CM that only could be connected to a MAC via ethernet(parallel to USB adapter doesnt work). You better check to see if a driver is available from HP that will let you connect via USB.
