I have two stripes running horizontally across my monitor, and splitting it approximately into thirds. They are very thin but they are also very noticable, especially against light backgrounds. Changing monitor resolution doesn't change anything; the stripes stay in the same positions on the screen.

I have a 17" Apple CRT monitor (B&W, to match the B&W G3 towers).

Is this normal? Can I fix this? What's going on?

TIA

[Edit: By the way, I don't have any magnets around. Can't think of what else would have caused this.]

From what I have read on different forums as well as here in MacNN, this are "normal". Today I went to an Apple reseller here in Toronto-Canada and there it was - the 17" ASD CRT with the two lines running horizontally. Some people get used to them, personally I am very detail oriented and inmediatelly noticed them. This would have not change my mind on owing one of this monitors however, I am just set on buying and Apple LCD. Take care, remember - you have a great monitor nevertheless.

those lines are stabilizing wires, that stabilize the picture over the greater distances. All CRT monitors over 15" have them. You will get used to them after a while and hardly notice them. If you absolutely can't stand them, and want a larger monitor, you are gonna have to cough up the change for a LCD.

Ok, thanks. I'll be getting an LCD eventually, but I can live with the wires for now.

It isn't the CTRs that have them its all trinitron monitors have them. just a little correction.
