One of the reasons I want to get a new printer is that I often get postscript errors with my old 4/600ps laserwriter. It annoys me like hell. They come when I try to print out a webpage or a document with Chinese text or different fonts. Not always , but often. I'm assuming it's a memory thing, but since I know little about these errors, I can't say for sure. Can anybody shed some light on postscript errors? Will getting a new printer with more memory help? This one only has 2mb I think.

I've lived with this for several years and want desperately to solve the problem

thanks!

"Postscript errors" is a very wide term. If you can actually capture what the specific error is, check out http://users.belgacom.net/prepresspa...solveerror.htm

There is no doubt that more memory will help if you are using many fonts and non-Roman alphabets, but there is no guarantee that just randomly adding RAM to your existing printer or mac will solve your problem.

If this problem is sufficiently serious to drive you crazy, jot down a few of the links to the bombing web pages, go to a computer store and then buy whichever printer can handle them cleanly while still fitting into your budget.

I don't have a solution but I experienced the same problem on my Laserwriter 4/600ps.
Random postscript errors were popping up etc.
My suspicion is that it has to do with the more recent Laserwriter drivers, as the printer *used* to work just fine under... oh, like System 7.6.1.
On the other hand, stuff I printed back then may have been simpler to digest.

One tip: makes sure the proper PPD for the 4/600ps is selected in the Laserwriter setup dialog in the Chooser. Might make a difference.

This error-proneness is a nuisance, especially, since there are few PS laser printers in the 4/600s price/quality range nowadays. LaserJet II emulation under PowerPrint just don't cut it.

HTH,
Andreas
