Just purchased this scanner - recommended by Receipt Wallet / Document Wallet software. Using 15" MacBook Pro. Downloaded and installed the TWAIN mac drive from the Pentaxtech.com website. Attached the scanner. Nothing. It shows up as a scanner in Receipt Wallet and Document Wallet, but when I click scan, the programs shut down. When I try to scan into Acrobrat Reader, nothing. Have uninstalled and reinstalled driver. Same results. Now going nuts considering how highly rated both the scanner and these programs were on various sites. Anyone with any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Called PentaxTech support. They were helpful, suggesting I install the scanner, software and driver on another computer, which I did. Installed the scanner, driver and programs on an Apple iBook. They all worked like a charm, as advertised, etc.

BUT, they still do not work on the MacBook Pro. Same result. Ran Apple Profiler, the scanner shows in the USB port, reinstalled the program and drivers.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is with the program. Receipt Wallet and Document Wallet both show as universal apps for Intel-based Apples. But, the programs shut down when you try to scan. This does not happen on the iBook laptop.

Still looking for suggestions or ideas. Thanks.

The scanner works fine on Intel machines and functions beautifully with both ReceiptWallet and DocumentWallet. I've sent you some troubleshooting tips as it is likely a preferences file that needs to be removed and all Pentax/DSMobile files cleared out and started over. The closing as I've indicated in our email exchanges happens when ReceiptWallet tries to open the TWAIN driver for the scanner; it is a bug in the driver that ReceiptWallet is triggering; we'll work through this via email. The scanner driver is a universal binary, so that definitely isn't the problem otherwise ReceiptWallet wouldn't even see it.

BTW, we don't check forums all that often, so the best way for us to help you and others in the future is to simply contact us via our website.

A couple of observations and experiences.

I've had the scanner for a couple of months. After a lot of crashes when I tried to access it, Pentax tech support told me that I had to calibrate it in administrative mode. After that it worked fine.

Then it developed a vertical line. I tried everything they suggested, but eventually I had to return it. When it came back, the line was still there. Support says that they replaced the unit (although the serial number is the same), so there shouldn't be a problem. Then a second line appeared, which seems to be permanent as well. The scanner calibrates perfectly, or at least it reports that it does, but the lines remain.

The next step, I suppose, is to install the windows driver on a friend's PC and see if the lines are still there. I've programmed and hacked for 45 years, and vertical lines are not usually software problems. The lines seem to be exactly one pixel wide.

I'm open to suggestions. It's a great scanner in every other respect, and I don't see anything else out there that would do as well for the price.l

Sorry you're having problems.

After talking to a buddy at one of the Apple stores, we reinstalled the OS, since he suspected that somehow the TWAIN subsystem had become corrupted. Apparently it had, because now both the scanner and the software (Neat Receipts and Neat Documents) work just fine. I'm not having any other problems so far.
