Hi,
I have a Umax 1600u USB scanner. I'm having a problem with it though. Scans seems to have a "blinding" effect on them(that is it looks like there are ventian blinds on scanned photos). I've tried cleaning the glass but that didn't solve it. Any ideas what it could be? I should add that I had to take the scanner apart earlier today to fix a stuck gear and I wonder if I may have screwed something up while doing that. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

It sounds af iff the gears might still be stuck...the venetian blind effect that you mention sounds most likely caused because the scanner head is not coming across in a fluid motion... do you hear clicking or grinding when it is scanning?

Yea as a matter of fact I do hear clicking when it is scanning. Any ideas on how I could remedy the problem?

Hi Dave,
Not quite sure what to do on this one... you said that you took it apart to fix a stuck gear... could it be that something is still stuck inside? Also, how old is it? Is it still under warranty?

dave
