i purchased a iomega zip650 cdrw and it works fine everytime and consistently at 4x's. i bought it from the iomega web site. it was a refurbished unit and it carried the same warranty as a new one and it was quite alot less than a new one. my reasoning for buying a refurbished unit was that if it was returned for a problem, the techs would have gone through it and fixed anything that was wrong. i heard alot of people saying not to get one when i was shopping aorund and also people telling me that i couldnt use it through a usb hub. however i connect mine through a belkin 4 port pocket hub on my imac and it burns at 4x's without a hitch at all. my only real piece of advice is that if you have firewire to go with a yamaha (they are the best) but if you are like me and dont have firewire then you are definitely limited to 4x's burning of cd's. oh, and also the toast software that came with the cdrw was toast 4.0, and is buggy as hell. as soon as you get it installed go to roxio's web site and upgrade to 4.2 (unless you plan on using itunes)

hope this helps.....

I heard that you cannot burn 700MB CDRs, is that true?

Have you tried it with MacOS X? Can you burn Audio CDs at 4x?

I can't get FW because it has to be attached to various computers (Mac and Win) that only have USB.

thanks again

thanks for your input

I bought the Zip CD and havent had any problems with it. Using Toast 5.02 and have been burning data CDs at full 4x speed, no coasters. Audio CDs at 2x... also no problems.

Very nice!

BTW, it COMES with a black 700MB CD, so I guess what people were saying that it doesnt burn on 700mb CDs isnt true.

Perhaps you should get a Lacie drive. All lacie drives have both USB and Firewire so you could burn at high speeds when connected to one of the computer with firewire and the slower USB speed on the PCs.
