One year ago I bought a Que Fire CDRW 12/10/32.I have been using it with no problems with Toast. Now for some reason the drive is not even recognized by the system profiler (and neither by Toast 5.01). I am using Mac OS 9.1 on a Cube 500. I have tried all the possible solutions for the compatibility with iTunes and Disc Burner (disabled the extensions, reinstalled ecc). But the drive is not even recognized by the system (as I said before). I am sure it is a software problem because once in a million times it gets recognized by the system and sometimes even by toast. But it seems as if the drive is not responding (the door doesn't even if using a paper clip).
Does anyone have any advice?
PS I tried to install Toast 5 preview for Mac OS X and it still doesn't recognize it (nor does the system profiler in OS X). I checked the thread for similar problems but have not found anything. Thanks

A couple of questions first: did this happen on switching to 5.0, or was this problem around before then? Have you tried both firewire ports?
Try Toast 5.02. That solves the iTunes compatibility issue, but it doesn't actually sound like a software issue.
There may be several things wrong here. First, search for Que! issues on this board. I'm sure I've seen comments about drives behaving inconsistently. Secondly, if you have another FW device, see whether or not that behaves regularly - might be the ports themselves? (I think Cube FW ports behaving inconsistently was document at www.xlr8yourmac.com recently - search there). Last, try calling Que! service - but good luck. They don't have a rep for being the best in this department.
Good luck,
M.
