Does anyone know if 'other' drivers will work with the HP drives? I've checked the HP site, and they state 'no' support for macintosh. Since the company recently bought some of these drives for our PC users, it would be nice if we could get them to work on our Macs as well.

I have an internal SCSI HP CD-RW in my beige G3 at home, I don't remember the model off hand. Toast recognizes it perfectly. No drivers required. You can go to www.roxio.com and look up a compatibility chart for Toast to see if your drive is also supported.

General info about CD-RW on mac. Get Toast first. It usually supports virtually all drives available. And the folks that make Toast often produce updated lists of drives that it supports that you can download and apply to Toast.

Second, going to their site and looking for the drive in question is very smart. Better yet, don't get an HP burner. Get something from Yamaha or Plexstor. Their burners are the best in the business. You would only purchase an HP burner if you were a PC user and wanted comprehensive software to go along with the unit, that is what HP burners are known for, not the hardware itself. My best guess is that HP sub-contracts the construction of the burner to a drive manufacturer. I'm pretty sure they don't make the drive themselves.
