Looking to purchase a computer based multitrack recording system and was wondering what you guys thought of these products.

Motu 828? (the firewire one)
Motu 2408 MkII
M-Audio Omni Studio (with Delta 66 card)
Digi 001

Am specifically concerned with integration into Mac OS (9, but preferably at some point X - is there any word on upgrades to these systems to make them OS X compatible) and quality of multitracking software.

I have a G4 533DP with 7200 RPM 40 gig harddrive. should I get a new one for these systems - ATA or will I need to go with SCSI?

Thanks for all the feedback!

I know this is an old post, but I'll reply so it might hellp the next person:

Motu 2408 MkII on Blue and white G3/300 OS 9.2 with a lacie external harddrive gives me 8 tracks recording at the same time. I've recorded songs with over 30 seperate tracks and been able to play and mix them with no crashes.

Still works peachy

Setting up the motu was a little scary, but once it was hooked up it was fantastic.

hehehe. How did you even find this post.

Just for the update, I ended up getting a MIO 2882 about 2 years ago. I also briefly had a MIO ULN2 which is better but only provides 2 tracks at a time, so I ended up chucking it for a nice set of outboard preamps. Both of these units are firewire, so I can hop around between machines quite easily

Been running Logic. Recorded many tracks (anywhere from 1-8 at a time) onto my 1.25ghz 15" powerbook hard drive and a 1.8DP G5. Lovely little system.
