iSub/Pro Speakers or Soundsticks

I'll be getting a new Mac (probably a G4) after July MWNY. The iSub has dropped in price from $99/£79 to $59/£49, Soundsticks cost $199/£139. Soundsticks are out of my range pricewise, so how good a substitute is an iSub and Pro Speakers setup. I've heard that the iSub speaker is a different spec to the iSub that comes with Soundsticks, if is this true, how are they different?

I've read that the iSub isn't supported by OS X, whereas the sub that comes with the Soundsticks is supported. Don't know why, or whether there will be a fix.
